Welcome to Dundee

2024 SABE/IAREP Conference

The 48th SABE/IAREP joint conference will take place at the Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee, Scotland, August 19-22, 2024.

The annual conference of SABE/IAREP attracts academics, policy makers, and practitioners from psychology, economics, business administration, marketing, consumer behaviour and related fields. During the conference, the General Assembly also takes place.

As always, we welcome submissions on all topics that relate to behavioural economics and economic psychology.

This year we have a focus on celebrating and welcoming the plurality of robust methodologies within and across disciplines amongst behavioural economists and economic psychologists:

  • There are different ways of doing experiments, both classroom and field;
  • Different theoretical approaches to explaining outcomes, which encompass economic and psychological variables, but also sociological, cultural, and institutional factors, for example;
  • Different ways of articulating one’s narrative robustly, which can involve no math to a lot;
  • Different toolboxes employed, from bounded rationality to heuristics and biases;
  • Different approaches to correcting for market failure and errors in decision-making from institutional adjustments, price and income related policy, to different forms of nudging.

We’re all about better explaining the broader economic world that is rooted in how real people behave in the real world, which is very much in the Herbert Simon tradition.

Sponsored by the School of Business, University of Dundee

The Best Student Paper Competition is a highlight of each IAREP / SABE conference. Elsevier, the publisher of the Journal of Economic Psychology, sponsors the competition.

The winner of the Elsevier/IAREP/SABE Best Student Paper Competition 2024 receives 1,000 Euro and a year’s electronic subscription to the Journal of Economic Psychology. The second and third place will receive a year’s electronic subscription to the journal. The three winners will be honored at the conference, will receive a certificate, and will be listed in the associations’ newsletters. A committee of IAREP/SABE members will evaluate the submitted papers.

The criteria are:
(a) the interest of the paper topic for economic psychology and/or behavioral economics;
(b) quality of research;
(c) quality of writing;
(d) contribution of the student to the paper (the student has to be the first/corresponding author, and their presentation has to be accepted for the conference)

To apply, send an email with your full paper to the chair of the contest committee (who will be announced shortly). The deadline is July 26, 2024.

Purpose: IAREP will pay the registration fee on behalf of 5 PhD students to help students with limited travel funds to connect with researchers in the field of economic psychology and become familiar with IAREP and SABE.

Eligibility: PhD students with limited travel funds who present a paper or a poster at the 2024 IAREP/SABE conference are eligible.
